A man has pleaded guilty to smuggling illegal immigrants into California.
Javier Sanchez Perfino, 30, admitted to running a smuggling group for his own financial gain from 2003 to 2006, charging $1,500 per person and crossing 60 to 80 people a day into the U.S.
He smuggled people from Mexico via the Chocolate Mountain Aerial Bombing and Gunnery Range, which is often not monitored by Border Control, eventually getting them to Los Angeles.
Mr Sanchez, a legal U.S. resident, now faces up to ten years imprisonment when he is sentenced on December 5th this year.
According to Interpol, the smuggling of people is a growing global phenomenon. It is not only a transnational crime, but also an enormous violation of human rights and a contemporary form of slavery.
Often the traveling conditions are inhumane, but many migrants willingly undertake the journey.
Economic instability is generally the main reason for illegal migration movement throughout the world.
